Wander Magazine
Wander is a sub-publication of Time Out Magazine that is devoted to Unconventional Travel Destinations. This issue, titled “Fragmented Reality", focuses on how travel can change you; it uproots your worldview and can even warp your perception of self. The article featured here is about the complex journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway - a journey in duration and isolation that brings some to a mental and emotional breaking point.
For the cover I wanted to portray the shifting and breaking down of identity of this young traveler. For the featured article I went with a theme of the railway being like a “portal” with images of both the world outside and time inside the train warped and whirring by in an unusual manner, cast with a red-yellow glow like the sun setting off in the distance as the days and hours pass by.
The entire design of the cover and spread are original and all my own. I did not take the original photography but selected the photos and applied my own treatments to them.
